What happens to your data after cancelling?
Plain-language answers to the five questions customers ask most about cancelling Pettavo: what trial vs paid cancellation does, how the 60-day default works, immediate deletion, reactivation, and what happens after 60 days. Still need help? Visit the Help Center →
1. If you cancel mid-trial
Your free trial ends the moment you tap Cancel Subscription. You won't be charged — trials are free by definition. After that moment you have no access to the app: no logging in, no viewing records, no sharing with your vet.
If you decide to use Pettavo again later, you'll need to resubscribe. A fresh trial will not be offered — payment is required immediately.
2. If you cancel after paying
Your service continues to the end of the billing period you've already paid for. You keep full access to every feature — pets, health records, sharing, backups — until that end date.
After that date, your subscription simply stops. No further charges will be made. If you have annual billing, it ends at the end of the year; if monthly, at the end of that month.
3. 60-day data retention
When access ends — whether from a cancelled trial or the end of a paid billing period — all your pets, health records, photos, uploads, and reminders are kept safe for 60 days. Your account row itself stays in the database so the system can recognize your sign-in, but you cannot view anything during that window.
We send reminder emails at 45 days and 7 days before deletion so you have a clear chance to reactivate or export your data in time. You can also export a backup at any point during the 60-day window by signing in and using Settings → Back Up All Data & Files.
4. Delete everything now (GDPR right-to-erasure)
If you don't want your data sitting in a 60-day window, you can choose Delete everything now at cancellation time. This invokes your GDPR right-to-erasure: all pet profiles, health records, journal entries, observations, attachments, photos, videos, and account-level metadata are permanently deleted immediately. This cannot be undone.
The only things we keep for 60 days after immediate deletion are your account email and billing history — we need them to process refunds and respond to payment disputes. After those 60 days, the email and billing records are also permanently deleted.
5. Reactivate within 60 days
If you come back within the 60-day retention window, just sign in, resubscribe, and your full account is restored intact: every pet, every health record, every journal entry, every photo and upload — exactly as it was. No new trial is offered; payment is required at the start of the new subscription.
After Day 60 the account row is erased. Reactivation is no longer possible: you would need to create a brand-new account and start over. Sending us a support request before Day 60 is the only way to recover at that point, and we cannot guarantee recovery once the 60-day window has closed.
